With Ruddington entering 2021 under ‘stay at home’ Tier 4 Coronavirus restrictions, at least unlimited outdoor exercise close to home is still permitted. The footpath work recently completed by Via East Midlands should make progress easier for local walkers.
RUDDINGTON.info reported in November 2018 that residents from the Pasture Lane estates were celebrating the completion of a long awaited tarmac surface on ‘Footpath Number 5 – which links 50 Steps Bridge from over the railway line to Vicarage Park – meaning years of wading along a quagmire would finally be a thing of the past.
As shown above, there was one remaining problem, however. The tarmac surface ran out onto grass at the end of the footpath, meaning pedestrians still had to cross a potentially muddy park to access the next pathway. Following further campaigning by villagers, and lobbying by Ruddington Parish Council (RPC), this latest work under contract to Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) has now joined the two together ready for winter, as you can see.
It’s not a moment too soon, since there is likely to be even greater demand for this walking route in the future from hundreds more householders on the ‘Wilbur Chase’ development, which is currently under construction.
It means that these new residents, and all villagers and visitors who enjoy strolling or cycling along that way, can now enjoy a mud-free, all-weather surface from Vicarage Lane in Ruddington right the way through to Rushcliffe Country Park.
